Mount Kazbek (5033 m.) is a majestic Georgian summit, situated in the South-East of the Greater Caucasus Range, near to border with Russia. It is the dormant volcano. Last eruption occured in 650 B.C.


Program of trekking on Mount Kazbek is rather easy and will be interesting for both: amateur and experienced climbers. You will not have any technical difficulties during climbing but you can expect physical strain, because you will ascent about 1400 m from the campsite to reach the top of Mount Kazbek.

Day One From Tbilisi to Gudauri

Meeting with your guide at the airport in Tbilisi, transfer to Gudauri resort (aprox. 2 hours of driving). Dinner and overnight at a hotel in Gudauri.

Day Two Meteo station

Breakfast at the hotel. Later we drive to Sameba Monastery (about 40 minutes ). From the monastery we will walk up till campsite located at an altitude 3650 m. Trekking takes about 7 hours. Overnight at the campsite in tents (2 people in 1 tent).

Day Three Acclimatization hike

We will climb up till 4000 m. During climbing we will practice skills necessary to climb to the summit of Mount Kazbek (rope work, ice axe arrest, etc.). Later we will have free time on the campsite. Overnight in tents.

Day Four Kazbek summit

Early wake up. About 2 a.m. we start ascent to Plato (4500 m.) which takes aprox. 4 hours. From Plato we continue our walk to Saddle (4900 m.) and then to the summit of Mount Kazbek (it is the most steep part of climbing). During the ascent from 3900 m. to the summit and back we will be roped to our guide, which will help on the most slippery parts of the route. We back to our campsite at 3650 m. Overnight in tents.

Day Five Extra day

Reserve day in case of bad weather or slower acclimatization.

Day Six Descent from Kazbek

Breakfast at the campsite. Then we pack our luggage and back to Sameba Monastery (about 4-5 hours of walk). From the monastery we drive back to Tbilisi. Overnight at the hotel.

Day Seven Transfer to Airport

After breakfast at the hotel we will transfer you to the Tbilisi airport. End of tour.
